What is your opinion on the cons of obesity?
28 Nov 2009
For a school project…What is your opinion of people who are obese (Not overweight, obese, with a body mass index score of 30 or above). And if you are obese, do the health risks worry you? Your overall feelings on being obese?
*note: I am not against obesity or anything like that. This is just the topic I got stuck with at school.
There are many reasons for a person to become obese. Health problems, like Thyroid or Diabetes. Or a disease that prohibits you from being able to dispel calories, or to exercise.
But, there are also ways to help control these things with a doctors help if the person chooses. medications and diet are a couple choices.
If the person decides not to accept a plan that helps them, then they are setting themselves up for many health problems. Heart disease being front and center. Muscular problems, lung and other vital organ problems. Not being able to get the exercise needed to burn extra calories. There are also mental problems like depression that come along with it.
My personal opinion….you can choose to control it and live..or ignore it and lose your life and the people in it………its a choice.

2009 Nov 28 3My opinion is that obesity is a choice that people make at some point and forget that there’s a choice to be a healthy weight as well. I also believe that people who are obese lack will power and/or have psychological problems because they are knowingly and controlably killing themselves on a daily basis. It takes work to be that big. If obese people ate only healthy food in whatever quantity they wanted, the worst they would be is overweight, not obese.

First off I want to say that this opinion is not accurate… there are people out there that may not be able to control their weight.. there are health conditions such as thyroid problems that, without diagnosis and MEDICAL treatment from a doctor can make it almost impossible to loose or gain weight. With hypothyroidism you gain weight because the thyroid doesnt produce the right amount of chemical to help the body regulate foods your body takes in from bad to good so your body’s metabolism is slower to get rid of the bad stuff contained in food.
Obesity has many cons.. type 2 diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, arthritis, sleep apnea, and stroke.
Those are the medical risks… we are not even looking at the social cons of obesity… large people are shunned by a society wich believes that "Thin is Beautiful". If you are overweight you ultimatly expierence depression, low self esteem, some extremely obese people entertain thoughts of suicide; there is the feeling of complete lonliness stemming from the low self esteem and isolation of the weight.

2009 Nov 29 7Besides dropping dead of a heart attack or waking up tomorrow with diabetes or kidney failure I can’t think of a thing.
This is what encouraged me to lose 198 pounds.
