Let me put it this way. An obese child is more likely to be an obese adult, than a normal one, and an obese adult is more likely to 1|) die prematurely 2) be in poor health for some time prior to death. This makes childhood obesity a serious challenge for society and for the health care system.

America is facing a time bomb that dwarfs terrorism, murder and the war in Iraq/Afghanistan. Things are so serious that for the first time in decades the current generation of children actually have a lower life expectancy than their parents. Last time that this happened was WWII.
References :
It's definitely a serious problem. Children today are more likely to experience all sorts of health problems, including diabetes, because of the shocking rise in child obesity levels. And an obese child is at greater risk for developing health problems in the future, so it puts a strain on our health care system as well.
References :
It's a very serious problem. Usually when kids are obese they stay that way. On top of that, because people are so insensitive they often face persecution because of their weight, which in my opinion isn't even really their fault (It's their parents for neglecting to feed them correctly or getting them to exercise) Either way, America is getting fatter and fatter and it's starting with kids now, and it's a scary thing to see a whole generation who will die 20 years earlier because of heart and other issues related to their weight.
References :
If you are writing a paper, I am sure you have all the statistics. As a mom, I think it is a huge issue - it has serious health implications especially diabetes. And - as a mom - I can tell you that kids are offered junk food constantly - school, after school activities, church (who needs a snack in a one hour Sunday school lesson?), and kids birthday parties. If you want to offer a creative real world idea in your paper - I have my kids put all their treats/candy in a jar. When the jar is full, we go to Target and pick out a toy. That way, they get to decide if they really want to eat that junk food or put it towards something else. Eating without thinking is a huge problem - an occasional treat is fine, it is eating because someone hands you something that makes us fat! good luck with your paper!
References :
The fact is that a growing number of American children are becoming obese. I do think it is, more on the part of advertisements for fatty foods and the promotion of unhealthy habits. However, television is trying to change that and fast food chains are providing healthier options. Though, the rate is still increasing. The media is obviously not being honest in promoting a healthier America. I think the major consequence of this would be our next generation having an even larger plethora of health-related diseases and disorders and will eventually be costing all of the older generations for their care.
References :
This is a huge concern, ignore the unintended pun! It leads to heart disease, diabetes, hypertension and a host of other illnesses. I think a big contributor of childhood obesity is a combination of video games, fast food and less than vigilant parenting. I have a son who is a little overweight and I worry about him.
References :
There are no pros of being obese
The cons are
1) If you are obese it is mostly because you are eating the wrong type of oily foods, Therefore it causes high cholestrol
2) It damages the heart
3) Red meat also can cause obesity which blocks the arteries and also results in breathing problems
4) It can cause deadly diseases like stomach cancer and ulcer
5) It is anything but attractive!
