I’m sorry, but the title photo is disgusting. It demonstrates exactly what is wrong with the standard of beauty for American women. Warner looks like a concentration-camp victim with a tan. Her body is ropy, stringy, and skeletal. She has obviously dieted and worked out too much.

So this begs the question, what does she consider “fat”?

Jillian Michaels is annoying, but her figure is what women should be aiming for: toned and with curves.

This book is a waste of time. The title is arrogance personified for starters and honestly, she has a physique and an attitude that is turn off. The writing is about as erudite as Paris Hilton addressing Oxford. The cover photo really begs the question why any woman who is not a body builder would take fitness and diet advice from such a squarish built person with zero hip to waist ratio and little physical symmetry or femininity.

Built up muscles on certain women can look nice IF there is symmetry and fluidity (like the singular graceful awesomeness of singer Pink) but Warner looks like her whole torso and back is locked. She radiates harshness and stiffness to me. Why have a waist that just runs into your hips like a uni-torso when you can have a hip to waist ratio? When did this become popular and why? Perhaps Jackie does not own a mirror? She has the most unattractive, squarish torso apart from Madonna’s that I’ve EVER seen (even photoshopped). Her fitness advice is designed to make your body SQUARE and MANLY not shapely. I like Joesph Pilates and his teachings but I don’t want to look like him and she does.

The nutritional advice is ok, she provides decent reference material so it’s not the worst, though weekends “off” is not intelligent for long term weight loss success and there is no proof that you’ll “burn muscle” if you don’t eat after working out. But the fitness advice is outmoded and poor. Core strength blah blah blah. Working large muscle groups bulks many woman out if they jump in too soon but obviously this is of little matter to the author.

I know little about the author apart from this book which is getting donated to the Goodwill and would not do any further research on her credo after reading on wikipedia that she insulted a woman’s breasts without bothering to find out that she is a cancer survivor. The woman she insulted has a figure that is a million times more symmetrical and balanced then her’s so there you have it.

If you want advice on diet and body sculpting then Raquel Welch’s Total Beauty and Fitness as well as her recent advice on fitness dispensed in her new book “Beyond The Cleavage” is light years ahead of this plus Raquel has a body that is athletic but still looks hourglassy even at nearly SEVENTY! What will Warner look like at 70? If one wants a masculine physique and is too intimidated to buy a book on body building then buy this book instead!

If you want to get toned follow her diet and circuit routines. I had given up until she came on my TV screen and I got her first DVD. Now my whole outlook on life has changed and my body has too. If I could meet her I would say thanks and shake her hand because she has helped me change my life. Jackie knows what she is talking about so trust her and get your sweat on. Thanks Jackie!

Guess there’s really nothing new under the sun on this subject. The gist of the info here is that you should watch quantities, make sure you get enough protein and exercise. Not particularly inspiring.

I am looking forward to trying out Warner’s exercise routine.

However, her comment on p. 51, strikes me as really worrisome, especially given her total lack of medical training: “Medicine is nothing more than a bunch of chemicals that stress the liver and keep it from burning fat…” And on p. 45, she contends that “If you have hypothyrodoism, don’t rely on your doctor to write a prescription…You can balance your thyroid naturally through food and exercise.”

I LOVE my antihistamines–these affordable, so-called nasty chemicals have relieved me significantly from chronic allergies and asthma. When I couldn’t afford to take them (there was still a patent out on them in the late 80s), my life was hell, despite all the wonderful homeopathic remedies recommended to me by well meaning friends.

Ditto for statins–without them, my cholesterol would be much much higher (genetic propensity).

As for hypothyroidism–all the dieting and exercise in the world, won’t compensate for the wonderful effect that synthroid has had in imporving the lives of many women who suffer from this highly treatable condition.

Its the embarrasment of riches that has made so called new age gurus like Warner active advocates of the “evil” medicine thesis. Think of an age when none of these meds were available–and then draw the consequences.

If Warner believes that everything organic is good (try eating a natural deadly mushroom) and everything chemical bad, so be it. But she shouldn’t let her personal dose of deadly advice become a mantra for everyone else.
