Obviously, I’m trying to lose weight. What should I eat and what should I not eat while trying to reach my goal? What are the best diet methods and such?
Also, what is the best way for me to work out?

To lose weight you should avoid processed foods, fried foods, refined carbohydrates (white bread, white rice, etc.) & sugar sweetened beverages. Processed foods are high in sodium and low in nutritional quality. Instead choose a variety of fruits (avoid fruit juice), vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy, lean meats, fish or other seafood and healthy fats like olive and canola oil. Especially focus on the veggies! They are super low in calories and packed with fiber to help keep you full.

Eat small frequent meals throughout the day and don’t skip meals. Skipping meals can slow down your metabolism and deprive you of needed energy. Eat breakfast in the morning to wake up your metabolism after a long night’s sleep. Also don’t forget to drink plenty of water. Water is necessary to keep your body functioning properly. Staying hydrated helps with digestion, helps control appetite and flushes out toxins.

You may also want to keep a food journal. This will give you a good idea of how many calories you are taking in and can help you identify areas where you need to make changes. The most successful “diets” fit easily into your lifestyle and teach you ways to eat healthier that you can stick with for good. It’s best to make lifestyle changes that can become part of your normal routine. This way you’ll have the best chance at keeping off the weight in the long run.

Hope this helps. Good luck!

I know running is a great weight loss exercise- but at 60 pounds overweight, i’d rather do something less apt to hurt my knees- I was thinking of speed walking, but a trainer at my gym told me speed walking is for ‘girls and pansies’…I disagree- , i think it is a way to lose weight…
what do you think?

I have been through it all and know what’s it about. The main thing is to stick in there. You can’t be an addict to food and never exercise if you want to live a healthy life and keep the weight off. I’ve worked out, done every diet, and all types of classes.

Nothing works, besides dedication and intelligence towards the subject of losing weight.

First, depending on how much weight you need to lose, your diet is the first concern. You can’t eat 10,000 calories a day and expect the weight to come off, even if you are exercising a lot. Which brings us to the next thing. Duh, Exercising…

This is a must especially if you need to a lot of weight. Get at least 30 mins of some good hardcore exercising. Do some cardio, in the long run, it’s good for the heart.

However, I find the most hardest part of losing weight/keeping it off, in my diet. It’s so hard to keep your fingers out of the cookie jar or those chocolate goodies. I’ve found a great addition to help any one out, it’s a natural weight loss supplement called Proactol. Now don’t get all crazy on me and say diet pills don’t work. That is true, but not in this case. This one isn’t meant to burn pounds while you sit on the couch. It’s an appetite suppressant, along with being a fat binder. I saved money on the pills at theweightlossplace.com along with getting some good info. It basically makes those fingers not go towards the cookie jar. For me it’s the best pill I’ve tried and I’ve tried cupboards full. Now this doesn’t mean you have to follow my foot steps but I’ve successfully lost roughly 70 pounds and keeping it off til this day.

Well good luck and remember what I said, Dedicate.

OK basiclly i want a lean body. i 220. and i want to get lean down to 180.. how would i go about doing that. i have 2 options i mind:

1.exercise and lose weight then start lifing weights in order to get more lean.

2. buy a body building supplement like, no-xplode.and do lots of cardio, with hopes of losing weights while gaining muscle form the supplement and the weight training.

im lost le me know what to do. im 220 and i want to lose weight and get lean

to lose weight u need to eat right and have a workout plan 5-6 days a week.u have to want it.
***try this u need to change ur diet.
eat six times a day. ea of ur 3 main meals needs to combine a lean protein such as chicken breast ground turkey turkey bacon egg whts also combine that with a complex carb such as a baked potato or sweet potato wild rice brown rice oatmeal or girts. also add fresh fruit and vegies to lunch and dinner. pick fruits low in sugar like pears and berries. if u get canned vegies get ones with low sodium. eat every 3-4 hrs keep ur metablism moving.
***also the most important part is WATER drink at least 64oz. no soda or juice. water will curve ur cravings.
u need to hit cardio 3-4 times a week running outside it great workout if u can hit a gym and cardio machine is great at least 30mins***
also add weight/strength training 3 times a week.u can google free weight traning guides anywhere. its not hard to find things for free. also for those wanting sexy hot abs. a nice toned stomach comes from a body with low body fat. so if ur overweight and u do a million crunches or any ab workout you r wasting your time!!! cant see the muscles under fat. low body fat equals=a nice flat toned stomach.
***plan ur meals ahead of time.always have a healthy snack with u so u wont be tempted to eat fast food. also if u wait to late to eat u will get so hungry u will eat the world. make time to work out start out with 30 mins then increase.its ur body treat it right. ur diet alone can help lose weight but working out makes ur body look good. shows muscles and tight skin which is sexy and beautful. stick with it ur body will amaze u!!! to be healthy and look great u need both in ur life. good luck

If I powerwalk/jog for an hour a day, 7 days a week, will the fat I burn come off my whole body or just like my legs. Because I really want to lose weight from everywhere lol

And is this much exercise good enough for weight loss aswll as a strict healthy diet?

I get this question a lot so it makes sense to write an article about it. To answer this question it would take more than an article but we will try to cover the basics in the next few lines.

Next to diet, what you eat, exercise is the most important part of your weight loss plan. Most people will concentrate on either the diet or the fitness workout, but I believe they are equally important for a healthy life, fitness, losing and keeping the weight off. So which is the most effective exercise to lose weight? Well to answer this question lets look at the two basic type of exercise routines so that we are all on the same page.

The first is resistance training, and this simply is lifting weights, and engaging different muscle group, in order to stress then so they will not only become stronger, more flexible but will grow, and I am not talking about body building type growth. Most people, women in particularly always say they do not want to lift weight because they do not want to look masculine or build bulky muscles. Believe me in order to reach to that level you have to lift a heck of a lot of weight, and eat a heck of a lot of protein. So we are just talking about toning up.

Resistance training is important because it forces your muscles to burn more fat for energy, this increases your metabolism and your body becomes more efficient at burning fat. So this type of exercise is critical for weight loss. Apart from the weight loss component, studies show that weight training strengthens the bones and prevents osteoporosis or weakening of the bone or loss of bone mass. Better muscle tone means less workout injuries, and the health benefits goes on and on.

So what about aerobics workout? This is the second type of work out that I want to talk about. Aerobic exercise is the process of increasing the heart rate through a 15-20 minute sustains exertion thus increasing the oxygen levels in the blood stream and burning fat to fuel the increase energy require to sustain said exertion. If that went over your head then look at it this way, if you jog around the block for 15-22 minutes your heart rate will increase, and your body will require more oxygen for the increase energy required, this will force the body to suck in more air, (hence the deep breathing) more oxygen in the blood stream means more fat can be metabolized and burnt and fat burning is what we want.

Once again aerobics has multiple health benefits, such as lower cholesterol, increased the release of endorphins which gives you a feeling of well being and lowers the risk of depression, helps with insomnia, and have a general health benefit for the whole body.

Having said all of that, which exercises routine, is better? Is it resistance training or aerobics? You guessed my answer, they are both equally important.

They are so powerful in weight loss and keeping you in shape that imagine if you combined then in your workout? For optimal benefits you should do at least 35 min of cardio or aerobic activity per day, and that can take the form of swimming, running, biking, walking, roller blade, tennis, racket ball or a workout DVD. The important thing is to make sure it is sustained for at least 25-35 minute.

for weight training or resistance training your can do some push ups, pull ups, squats, bench press, arm curls or you can do a circuit style training where you work multiple muscle group within a 45 minute time frame. The goal is to put your muscles under pressure and push then to grow, this requires changing up the weights and increasing the intensity over time.

I need to lose weight but I have a lot of problems with my back and deal with lower back pain daily…plus I have sciatica in one leg and too much movement/exertion causes it to flare up.

Are there any exercises (besides swimming) I can do thats low impact and wont cause me too much more pain?

First try to take care of your Sciatica. Here’s a article I wrote.

hi im 15 years old, 5′11” and about 207lbs. I want to lose some weight in my mid-section. I want to know some exercises that I can do myself without any machine or anything. I was thinking crunches but i’m not sure.

While you can "spot" train specific areas to build muscle, it’s very difficult to do the same to lose weight. Hit the treadmill and bike. Or high intensity (low weight, high reps, fast pace) training. Anything that elevates your Heart Rate and gets you sweating to start burning calories. Cardio is what you need.

I’m 31 and I weigh 230 lbs. I’m just starting to diet seriously to lose the weight. I’m looking for a friend who is going through the same, to email, share advice, and to motivate each other. Anyone intersted?

Me! Email me for more!

Since falling pregnant i’ve put on a good amount of weight (3stone) probably from not exercising and eating alot of junk foods, i look the same to everyone else but when i’m naked i notice that i’ve piled on alot of weight on my thighs and bum.

I want to do some exercises from home if possible and start eating better foods, obviously no exercise that is too strenuous or anything that would harm my baby in anyway, i just don’t want to gain anymore weight than i already have.

Also, after giving birth, how long do i need to weight before i can diet and start doing proper exercises? I don’t mean diet, i mean cutting out fat, carbs and so on. I know i can’t do this when i’m pregnant so i’m leaving that big step till after the baby is born, so how long should i wait? I’m not breastfeeding.

I am not as far gone as you, but im thinking well ahead!
Im just gunna wait til im in 2nd trimester (next week) n when i know all is still well.. then im going to walk alot – i take doggy out everyday for walk, but im talking loooong walk – i find its hurting my back when ive been doing it so far! I wanna do some really light weights, just to keep my arms toned.
But if you start now, it be great, you dont have to cut out on everything just lower on the intake of the bad stuff..
And walking is a BIG plus..it will also make ur labour and birth easier =)
And if you’re not breastfeeding and have a natural birth – ie not a c-section you can pretty much start exercising straight away, just start off easy! and remember to do your stretches!
Good Luck!

i am looking for a book that provides workout plans and log where i can keep track for weight loss and healthy living. is there one that has been really successful for you?

There’s no books that can beat your own common sense approach to exercise.
Modify your eating style to suit your "desired new you".
Eat loads of fresh veggie/ no bread/ no red meat or processed food.
Don’t cheat~!
Make a Solid but firm commitment to a daily workout routine. Just plain walking works the best. Start out walking what is your max distance. STAY THE COURSE AND, push yourself each and every day..
I lost 50 lbs by doing this since the first of Jan. I am at my new comfortable level of 148lbs. I walk 5 to 10 miles every day~many days, I will also throw in a bike ride on top of that. When I can, I climb mountains in NH for additional workout. The main thing is to push push yourself to a better you.
